Day Nineteen: Art And Hope
I just dropped my husband at the airport and am thinking about the 8 days I have to live without him on another coast with my son. It's not a pleasant thought, but I guess I can manage. He's taking some guys to the desert this weekend for some "get alone with God" time, so he can't stay here to do that... there is absolutely no desert of which I'm aware. Today I'm excited. Mainly because I get to hold a book in my hands for the first time. I'll get to see it and touch it and smell it. It sorta feels like Christmas Eve right now.
I'm also excited because I'm thinking about the book release concert and the art gallery that's going to be a big portion of the night. The excitement is probably presenting itself more as anxiety right now because of details and logistics that need to be put into place, just like any event. But excitement nonetheless.
My friend, Leighton, and several other amazing friends/volunteers/artists are coming together to submit art pieces in various mediums. They're all artists' interpretations of the title of the book: Desperate Hope. I simply cannot WAIT to see what these people are going to bring to the table. The art is going to be amazing and vary tremendously, which is what I love. I love the individuality of creativity and connectivity with God. He reveals different things about Himself to each of us. This collection of art will be, in essence, a collection of God's revelations of desperate hope. THAT is exciting.
It's also going to be amazing because Leighton is setting up the whole gallery to feel like that- a gallery, complete with a jazz trio (J-Mood. If you don't know them, you should. AMAZING) and appetizers and coffee. That is also exciting.
But the most amazing thing is that these art pieces will be for sale, and the artists are donating portions of the profit. They choose- some are giving 50%, 80%, 100%, etc.- and the money made from the sale of the art, as well as some of the money from the rest of the benefit, will go to the immediate cause of Haiti relief through Compassion International. THAT is my most favorite part of the gallery. Help in tangible ways. Desperate Hope being turned into glorious reality.
I hope you all get to come. It's truly going to be an unforgettable night. Oh, and the book will be releasing!! :)
From this post until the last I'll be putting a link at the bottom for the event page on Facebook, as well as a direct link to purchase tickets. Remember, the ticket price includes the book.
