In Praise Of A Good Man.

in-praise-of-a-good-man

I love him for a million reasons, not least of which are these:

  1. He humbly cleans our house a thousand times over because our children don't know that they don't have to see everything they own all the time in order for it to count. And because I am working more hours than I should right now.
  2. He makes me coffee in the morning; pour over, black, which is not the way he drinks his. So he makes a separate french press for himself, too.
  3. He takes the kids to school so that I don't have to put on real clothes before 7:15 a.m.
  4. He makes our bed every morning so that there's some semblance of order in an otherwise chaotic space.
  5. He responds with "No problem at all, babe. What else can I do to help you?" when I have to go back on my word that I'll pick up the second boy from school because I need to be on a last minute phone call for this project I'm working on.
  6. He acts like it's just short of heroism when I come home from work and cook dinner for the family.
  7. He encourages me to work and do the things that make me come alive, and he isn't threatened by my strength.
  8. He asks such good questions and empathizes in ways I can't even begin to understand.
  9. When he cooks it's the best food I ever eat.
  10. When I ask if he's heard about the latest tragic shooting (good lord, this is just too much), he says "NO!" and then pauses and asks, "What is his name?" Because he values the life of a person, not the addition of a number to a tally sheet.

There's not a better man out there. I'm sure of it. He makes me want to be better, more understanding, more loving, more faithful, more self-sacrificing.

I may be building a company and working on cool projects, but this man is building up other people and working on a legacy... I don't know how I got so lucky.
